Sacramento is answering the call and helping our sister guild, The Orlando Modern Quilt Guild, in their efforts to bring a quilt to everyone affected by the shooting in Orlando last week. For more information click here.
Sacramento Modern Quilt Guild has set a goal of donating 5 quilts to Orlando. The quilts will be given to the survivors, families of the victims, and first responders of the Pulse shooting in Orlando.
There are many ways you can help!
Make Blocks! or Make a Quilt top! - please visit the tutorial at cluckclucksew.com ( link takes you directly there). Orlando is requesting quilts made of hearts in a rainbow of colors no smaller than 48"x 60". If you are making blocks ( the 10" finished blocks) or a quilt top, they are due to Angelina McKenna by July 25th, 2016.
Help make Quilt tops!- Janice at Sewn Stitch Studio in Sacramento has offered up her sewing salon to us on July 30th from 530 to 9pm. We will be assembling quilt tops from donated blocks, preparing backing, and cutting binding. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Quilt a Quilt top!- Volunteers will be needed to quilt the tops. If you are a long armer or are comfortable quilting on your home sewing machine we will need volunteers.
Bind a Quilt! - Bind by hand or bind by machine Help us put those finishing touches on our quilts. Custom labels will be made so that Orlando knows that Sacramento is sending them some love.
Feeling inspired to make an entire quilt on your own?? Do it! Finished quilts are due to Angelina McKenna by September 5th, 2016. Quilts can be send to Orlando on a continuing basis but are due no later than September 15. The shipping address is available on their blog, linked above. Please let Angelina know when you send so we can keep track of how many quilts came from Sacramento.
Financial Contributions! Monetary donations will be helpful in off-setting the cost of materials and postage.
